About Augmeanted
Augmeanted invites you closer to the power of living music with our distinctive #symphonicsoul vibe, crafting tales and tunes cut free by the saw waves of our sound. In all we do, we aim to mean it when we bring it, hence that extra 'a' in our name. As we spiderwalk the strings and sing through heart and keys, we hope you’ll find yourself feathered by the wings of the crescent moonrise, embraced by the concert hall’s symphonic swirl, or rib-tickled by Appalachian fireflies.
Geoffrey Taylor is a Missoula-based multi-genre violinist, composer, recording artist, and educator performing professionally for nearly 20 years. As a performing artist Geoffrey collaborates with Sam Miltich & The Clearwater Hot Club and leads the swing septet Night Blooming Jasmine, which has been featured at the Big Sky Django Jazz Festival and the Northwest Folklife Festival. Other performing projects include The Tanner Laws Band, Kyle Hunter & the Mountain Standard, and Big Bad Frank. Geoffrey has also produced regional concerts with world-class musicians, including Tim Kliphuis and Alfonso Ponticelli, the Carlo Alonzo Trio and Gaelynn Lea.
He performed regularly with the Helena Symphony Orchestra for a decade and has performed with numerous symphonies throughout the Rocky Mountain west. As a composer, Geoffrey published 12 Fantasias for 5 String Fiddle. As a recording artist, Geoffrey’s fiddle on Dusty the Kid’s album Days of Love and Rage has been called “a righteous debut album” with a “soulful…tender fiddle.” His work on Augmeanted’s Life, Twice, was chosen as a Top Album for 2022 by Pitch Perfect, noting his luscious strings arrangements and timeless, globally-influenced motifs. Geoffrey is an active teaching artist with a private studio for violin, viola, and mandolin and visiting teaching artist for numerous educational and community organizations serving the Missoula region.
Mary Overlie sings through her heart and keys in Mudsong, based in Bemidji, Minnesota and leads a double-life as a school teacher and songstoryteller, developing a story that wants telling, at a rate of about one new work a year, including: Mudsong: a retelling of the motherless child’s search for home that mixes The Wizard of Oz, the Spirit of the Northwoods and a buttery slop of soul. Ugly Bird: A telling of the Ugly Duckling in verse & soul. CelloWoman: with the help of Geoffrey Taylor, this songstory turned Kafka’s Metamorphosis on its back. Instead of flailing in the body of a bug after profound alienation, our heroine transformed into a cello by ceasing fiddling with other people’s lives and embodying in the center of her own.
